I’m changing builds. Why? In a word, Penance. I want to try it out. I was planning on waiting until 80 to swap to this build, but with Christmas coming I just can’t wait that long. I need presents now! 🙂
Penance is the 51 point Disc talent, the crowning achievement of the Disc tree. So it had better be pretty good and its time to find out. I suspect it’s going to be great for healing and moderately useless for (solo) damage. We shall see…
Also i’m rethinking Spirit Tap at this point in my levelling. While questing i very rarely use more than 10% of my mana and there is no down time in between pulls. The only time i’m getting low on mana is soloing elites with lots of health or healing in instances and Spirit Tap isn’t going to help me there anyway. I can’t give any decent advice either way pre-70, but i’d be tending towards my previous stance of including Spirit Tap in any levelling build.
New build. At my current level of 75 i’m missing 4 points in Borrowed Time and Pain Suppression. I’ll be filling BT then finally getting Pain Suppression.

Increases the critical effect chance of your Flash Heal, Greater Heal and Penance spells by 4% on targets afflicted by the Weakened Soul effect.
Rapture – Rank 5/5
Causes you to gain up to 2.5% of your maximum mana each time you heal with Greater Heal, Flash Heal or Penance, or damage is absorbed by your Power Word: Shield or Divine Aegis. Increasing the amount healed or absorbed increases the mana gained.
Aspiration – Rank 2/2
Reduces the cooldown of your Inner Focus, Power Infusion, Pain Suppression and Penance spells by 20%.

Grants 25% spell haste for your next spell after casting Power Word: Shield, and increases the amount absorbed by your Power Word: Shield equal to 40% of your spell power.
Penance – Rank 1/1
Launches a volley of holy light at the target, causing 288 Holy damage to an enemy, or 1484 to 1676 healing to an ally every 1 sec for 2 sec.

Increases the critical effect chance of your Holy spells by 5%.
Divine Fury – Rank 5/5
Reduces the casting time of your Smite, Holy Fire, Heal and Greater Heal spells by 0.5 sec.
Inspiration – Rank 3/3
Increases your target’s armor by 25% for 15 sec after getting a critical effect from your Flash Heal, Heal, Greater Heal, Binding Heal, Penance, Prayer of Healing, or Circle of Healing spell.
This build is an instant healing build. Focusing on PW:S, Penance, Prayer of Mending, Renew, and hasted Greater Heals. It’s not a raid focused build.
This should be a very strong tank healing build. With pre-cast Power Word: Shields the synergy between Renewed Hope, Penance, Grace, Divine Aegis and Inspiration should mean the last three buffs are on the tank a fair bit of the time. The Divine Aegis buff will be smallish when procing off a Penance tick, but its better than nothing.
The synergy between Renewed Hope, Borrowed Time, Greater Heal and Divine Aegis should also be nice and result in much bigger Divine Aegis buffs. Greater Heal, in my current build, is essentially my go-to heal for when Renew, PoM and PW:S just aren’t enough. This is often augmented by a trinket/Inner Focus macro and this will continue in this Penance build. I suspect this macro (and specifically Inner Focus) will consume the Borrowed Time haste buff, but the 25% extra crit chance is more powerful than the 25% haste under most conditions. At 75 the macroed Greater Heal has a 45% chance of critting for about 8k healing, granting the target 25% more armour (Inspiration) and a 2400 health Divine Aegis shield.
Penance and PW:S will be the real work horses with Prayer of Mending, Renew, and hasted Greater Heals cast in between. Pain Suppression is an interesting option late in boss fights, where tanks usually have astronomical threat, and the boss frenzies/enrages, etc. Also a good panic button for saving clothies. I should probably swap in Flash Heal instead of Renew, but i’m still too attached to Renew ATM.
AoE healing is pretty weak in this build relying on Prayer of Healing and Prayer of Mending.
A couple of key skills that are missing from this build are Improved Divine Spirit, Improved Renew and Power Infusion. IDS only grants 80 spell power and doesn’t scale. I currently have about 1100 spell power (buffed) so another 80 is diminishing in it’s importance. I like it but i just can’t justify it. Likewise with Improved Renew. I love Renew while leveling and healing 5 mans but once I start on heroics it becomes less and less useful. I just don’t have the global cool down to cast it when things get heavy. I need that hasted Greater Heal in 2s a lot more than a fraction more healing over 12s with Renew. Power Infusion i’ve never used yet (never had a build with it in) so I won’t miss what I don’t have.
I’ll also miss Spirit of Redemption. 5% extra spirit is nice and the on death effect has prevented more than a few wipes.
The one strange inclusion, and main difference from the suggested build on ElitstJerks is the inclusion of Reflective Shield. I’ve retained this to help me finish off my levelling and for the 3+ zones of questing i’ll still have to do at 80. Reflective Shield amounts to what essentially is 1000+ free damage every single pull soloing and it is just too handy to pass up. It doesn’t even consume a global cool down to utilise.
Soloing/leveling I think there will be slightly less damage output with no Searing Light and a bit less spell power from IDS. I don’t think this will be an issue except perhaps with the tough, high health, elites. The bigger shields and hasted spells from Borrowed Time will be a plus. I guess we shall see how it goes.
