v3.3
Here it is finally. Its based on this LootRank.
All items ignore tier set bonuses currently. I will probably add them at a later date.
Items may include hit rating.
I’m pretty sure there are a number of heroic versions of items missing from this list. It appears that, like Trial of the Crusader, there are identical normal and heroic versions of each item. I expect more heroic versions will turn up once tha mode becomes available.
Sorry Holy priests you will have to wait a bit for your list as i’m AFK for a few days now.

Hello
nice posting, saved time
with that new shadow equip you prefer that shadow equip (head, robe) we will loose some willpower, do you mean we can survive with 400-600 Willpower and whats your opinion to that skill meditation still usefull with that little willpowerpool or should we ste all our strength in replenishment through int and mp5 ?
Which willpower would you say is that minimum for us Discpriest ?
I think by willpower they mean spirit. And yeah, going full BiS listed we’d have very low regen, which I am currently at 550 self buffed and it works fine with me as disc, both raid and tank healing, 14% haste, 35% crit, 2800 sp, self buffed.
Yeah I did actually consider this xorda and you are right. All BIS will have little spirit. I don’t think its likely to be a problem as there is always some pieces with spirit and some with MP5.
Hey, I noticed that the links for “Header” (which seems to be wrists) and beyond link back to your site instead of linking to wowhead.
Thanks for the list. I am enjoying gearing my little Disc Priest.
Thanks Jel. Fixed.
Aren’t the emblem cloaks only 50?
Hey! Nice posting as always! Very good posts by you and this disc gear list is highly valuable. Anyway to my big question, will there be a holy gear list as well? Since myself like playing holy :), I really enjoyed your 3.2 post about the holy gear.
Thanks a lot for all the theorycrafting. Cheers mate!
hi! So we’re still considering ditching all t10 that isn’t BiS? Very depressing 😦
How can Ashen Band of Endless Wisdom be so low on the list with it’s 285 SP proc?
Thanks for the list! The Mag’hari Chieftain’s Staff drops from IC 10 reg and not heroic.
While most of the things he says are accurate we are on endgame loot tables right now. He leaves out important buffs they we always have in raiding. Saying that spellpower > all is very narrow sighted on his part. For instance, with Blessing of Kings your stats increase 10%. Even if an item has 800+ spell power it will not scale with these buffs like spirit or intellect would. You will always have the same amount of spll pwr. It is also a 1 dimensional stat like mp5. I see people knocking spirit so much on the net that I think they forget it was only nurfed outside the 5 second rule. inside the rule (which we always are) it hasn’t been touched. but anyways, like mp5 as priests we have nothing that modifies it. There is no talent we have that raises our spll pwr by 25% based on spell pwr. We have one based on spirit…making spirit much more attractive than straight mp5. As priests we are the most versatile healers and we need to keep a balance between all of our stats. going all +spllpwr is something that is going to be a problem on very long and intense fights. At this point in ICC we should be looking for stats because of the scaling with buffs. This is from a Holy priest perspective. Its a good list to look at, but i would use it as a guideline and customize your own gear to your play style.
Hi Harte,
I’ve included Kings in the calculations as I said in my introduction and elsewhere.
Spirit is quite a good stat for Holy priests you are correct and I advocate balance in stat selection as you suggest.
I disagree that we should be looking for stats that scale with buffs like Blessing of Kings, to the exclusion of those that don’t, which is what I believe you are saying. Yes Kings is important but it isn’t powerful enough to make it the deciding factor by itself.
I agree with your suggestion that readers use it as a guideline and decide for themselves what gear they need. Slavishly following this list might result in a player having, for example, a lot of crit rating and little haste rating, and as you pointed out above, a balance is best.
So take this list and customise it as you see fit. Perhaps you really do want the T10 healing set bonuses even though the stats on the item aren’t quite as useful as the T10 shadow set (for discipline). The choice is yours.
Gobble gobble.
legs with hit are first, seems bugged
@Polaro – 38 extra crit is how those jumped on top
I believe you will change priorities next weeks cause that t10 2er set bonus seems to stack procs and further procs restart that hottimer …a few players spoke abouth possible max. 5k-8k hots every 3 seconds
@xorda – Yes and on the down side, it only ticks at 3s, 6s and 9s. So let’s say you flash and get it going. then at 2s you flash and get a lucky re-proc, it resets without ever doing one heal.
then it ticks at 3s at a higher rate, but it’s been a full 5 seconds since you’ve seen a heal from the proc.
It’s also over-healing for a lot, because it is so unpredictable. So people are comparing the known stats of the offset vs. the unknown value of a proc that may or may not land when you need it.
also you are probably using old data for feet as plague scientist’s boots normal mode are better than the crafted
@Polaro – Which data would you be referring to? Can you point to other theory crafting that shows PSB’s better? They are very close in bob’s table as it is.
well they are exactly the same except PSB has 80 haste instead of 80 spirit and he weights haste above spirit, soo….
@Polaro – Yes it also has 2 yummy yellow slots for more crit if you need it which gives an additional 7 SP, so more of the top two stats pushes it over slightly (likely the 7SP exactly)
So does it look like Helm/Chest are the best two T10 pieces to take, and offset in the other slots? That seems to be what I am seeing in my spreadsheet, unless I missed a piece
except by his weights you should always gem straight SP
@ Vamptessa – don’t forget 2 pc T9 is best in slot
#Polaro – Up to a point – You can’t play the game that way forever. yes 20% SP scaling on POM is awesome, but at some point you’re going to be missing stats that over the course of a fight will make up the difference. However, 20% SP is hard to come by, but again, it is for one big spell and doesn’t affect our other spells.
@Polaro “except by his weights you should always gem straight SP”
He has never said that. If you did that, then there would be no need for weights. Yes, I am thinking about gemming straight SP, but that is *only* after I have gotten all of the crit and haste I need from gear.
I guess the best approach would be to have 3 sets,
2 pc T9 for POM heavy fights, 4 pc T10 for tank spam fights, and best in slot crit+haste for general use
Hi Bob. I’ve been using your gear list and so far it’s working out pretty well. I’m having some trouble with the trinkets, though. When using the list on guildox.com, it lists many trinkets with DPS procs on them. For example, last night Marudin’s Spyglass dropped. It’s currently #6 on the BiS list (heroic version is #1). I rolled a 96 on it – but the raid leader decided that it was a DPS-only trinket and gave it to boomkin and discounted my roll. I am worried that, since most of the best trinkets have DPS-y procs, I won’t be able to get any trinket upgrades.
Bob:
I’ve ran into an issue recently where I am only picking up either spirit+crit or Crit+Haste gear. No solid haste anymore. I have just over 15% currently, and stacking crit+haste gear is really hard to stay below 15% crit, aka not wasting any.
I have 8 slots: neck, chest, bracers, gloves, pants, OH, MH, Wand which are all Crit+Haste pieces, the only one that has haste on it and not crit in the rest of my gear is my Revered ring because proc is hot.
I do not gem nor enchant for haste, I’m almost purely luminous Ametrine.
Would you say to look for crit+spirit gear instead of haste so I can stay at 15% or so, or would it still be okay to go over it taking into consideration frequency of BT (I’m a bubble spammer half the time), 6% in talents, 5% by totem.
I still don’t buy the whole 15% haste business. I am 17% now and when I need to spam a couple flash heals, that 1.2 GCD on the second one is noticeable.
We’re on Putricide 10 now and I have T10 helm/shoulders. Can’t say that I am noticing the bonus much, but the regen is nice, I am not having many mana issues. I think even as a tank/shield slammer, 4 pc will be nice because our tank takes a load of dmg on Putricide and I was wishing my penance was off CD, so if I can penance and notice the buff, flash heal and get another penance off, that will be pretty sweet I think.
Raid buffed mine is under 1.2 seconds already for flash. I think the regen is worth it though off of the 2P alone, will be also shoulder/head.
re: 2 pc T9- i love it and i’ll miss it when it eventually goes but I won’t skip upgading just to keep it.
@Polaro – According to the weights yes you should just put 23 SP in every gem slot (although it doesnt factor in bonuses). Personally I match colours. Gemming is really personal preference.
@Marava – guildox.com does not distinguish between healing and offensive spells. Marudin’s Spyglass is much better going to a DPS than a healer. Read this:
@Piru – Personally I ignore any soft haste cap. I’m not a huge fan of haste but having more than the soft haste cap is still useful.
At T10 people are generally well geared enough that what you look for in gear is personal preference. Everyone at the level has decent haste/crit/regen/spell power so its a matter of deciding what you like more of most. There is no hard and fast rules.
Bob – I don’t know how I missed that. Thanks!
I found the list very useful for deciding faster what I rly want to blow my dkp for, since as a disc priest I roll against alot of mages/locks/other priests of all specs.
Recently I regemmmed most of my gear going for spellpower (still have some sp+int gems, but few). Also got the t10 for healers (even if the 2 p set bonus is useless atm, I’m still curious about the 4p, and it just feels wrong to take the shadow tier, since I dont even have it as os) and got myself the crafted pants (no spi). I’m still looking for ways to ditch as much spi from non-tier pieces to make up for my choice in the tier. But atm my regen dropped to around 350sh while casting, and recently I am beginning to have mana issues. Its not heavy yet, using cooldowns still gets me to the end of the fight, but it made me decide I’ll still go for spi if the choice is spi versus odd hit. I never had mana issues, cant say its a major problem still, I’m still not looking at spi as much valuable stat but I guess I wont avoid it totally.
Hey a quick call to action for our active priest base. I have decided to try to get the word to blizzard in an organized fashion..please check out my forum thread and if you agree to the proposed changes to the t10 bonuses please sign on..
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=22749239605&postId=227467839121&sid=1#0
Here is a excerpt from the post detailing my proposed changes:
Priest t10 2 set bonus: Your flash heal spell has a 25% chance time your spell heals a target you have a chance to cause the target of your heal to heal themselves and friends within 12 yards for 25% of the amount healed each sec for 6 sec.
This is very similar to the fountain of light proc from trauma. It has been duly noted that the proc is not overpowered by any means. By lowering the chance slightly and since it is still tied to one spell it will provide a hot that will be effective for disc tank healing and raid healing holy priests. This is still a buff to an old staple of the holy priest that has been replaced with renew specs recently.
Priest t10 4 set bonus: Your penance and circle of healing spells have a 15% chance to refresh the cooldown on your penance and circle of healing spells.
This change would lower the number of procs to keep it in line with the original bonus but removing the clunky mechanic of having to throw a spell that may or may not be needed. From my testing the 4 piece bonus reduced the cooldown on circle by 3 seconds and on penance by 4 seconds. This allows the priest to decide if the reset cooldown is needed and can be applied as needed. The reduced proc effect keeps the set bonus in line to a similar mechanic used on retribution paladin t10 bonus that resets divine storm cooldown.
Edited the thread on the official forums for accuracy on the 2 piece bonus.. I had a littly copy paste fun and had 2 phrases in there twice.
I guess your ideas ain’t bad, considering 2p is averaging 0,77% healing done in both icc10 and 25, your solution would make t10 more appealing without being too strong.
( very casual calculation based upon various wlogs, not including trash )
Also, as for 4p, if you didn’t notice the bonus is quite broken. Not only the proc chance on 1000 cast is nowhere near 25%, also you don’t get any buff you can actually use to realize your next FH will free your penance. You have to notice it once your heal hit. So.. all in all, apart from fixing the buff, your idea is definitely better, working better, and giving the priest actually a choice to play with.
Remember penance is still an extremely powerful (even if it’s a missile) fast heal that can be helpfully used to save someone’s ass; therefore, even if you gain just one second from the real cooldown it can be worth. How many time did you lose someone just for a second? =P
However i post here to ask you if we can replicate the same post in the EU’s suggestions forum, so that the thing can be signed and seen by more people.
[…] Disc Priest Gear List (3.3)–What can I say? I trust the turkey (Bobturkey that is) when it comes to gear lists. You don’t get many, but those I link, I trust. […]
When can we expect the Lich King weapons and loot to be added to this list?
Arthas only drops weapons and tokens. The raw spellpower on these weapons will likely put them at the top of the list for the 2 heroic versions.
Updated for the Lick King.
I have best in slot according to this list and I’m oom in like phase 1 Lich King and I have to spam PI on myself during Blood Queen. Not going to recommend it.
@Polaro Ouch, was kinda worrying about that. I have T10 head/shoulders, with crafted pants, hands and getting the meteor’s.which I’ll lose another 90 spirit.
Hmmmmmmmmm
I’m glad someone else encountered that problem too Polaro.
Players will still have to apply their brain when gearing. In this case, if your spirit gets low (unbuffed casting MP5 under about 350ish) then you will need to forgo a little throughput for some mana regen.
For example, I was wearing this Crimson Acolyte Mantle (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50396) (507 points on my scale), but dropped back to Bloodstained Surgeon’s Shoulderguards (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50988) (486 points) for the extra 75 spirit. A small downgrade for more regen.
I was wearing The Lady’s Brittle Bracers (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49994) (406 points) but swapped back to Bracers of Dark Blessings (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50785) (356 points) once again for the spirit.
Mainly i’ve been dropping some haste for spirit where I can.
If you want to look at crafted chest pieces for those that need regen take Ermine Coronation Robes (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50975) (777 points) vs Meteor Chaser’s Raiment (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50974) (782 points). The former is a slight downgrade from the list but has a good dose of spirit.
Stuff like this list are only a guide. It will never replace a players need to think a little for themselves.
Gobble gobble.
@bob yeah, my mp5 is around 313 now, and I am not running out of mana on Putricide yet, but we have not made it to queen and arthas on 10 man. My spreadsheet is calculating MP5 incorrectly so I can’t rely on it yet (for some reason the forumula on wowwiki just isn’t working) I had picked up heads/shoulder T10 250. I am going to let VOA hand me Gloves/Pants if it wants to which I can use as needed.
I am wondering about haste though. If I go to ermines, I drop to 15% haste. I know that is above all models of needed haste, but I can say without a doubt that I have really enjoyed 17+% haste when I need to get a flash heal off.
When my frozen Bonespike drops, I’ll lose even more haste (I currently have Quel’Delar) so I want to be very careful with my gear choices.
Maybe it would be better to swap my 251 Sliver for a Lunar dust and get automatic mp5, vs something I press? Or maybe I should macro Sliver into Penance or something.
I know my gearing issues are different than those playing 25 content, but I still want to make wise choices.
For Putricide, Princes, and our attempts at Lana/Sindragosa, i find it key to time your cooldowns right. For Putricide, as a rough example about 2 minutes in, blow your shadowfiend, 5 minutes, hymn, and then fiend after if needed. Occassionally we run without replenishment, and all the mana in the world wont save me going oom if I don’t carefully monitor those CDs.
I don’t understand how you could have problems with mana on Putricide or Sindragosa, where you actually have pretty much downtime. However this is a BiS gear list based on stats’ weight, it’s obvious that getting all the loot with let’s say no regen stats apart from intellect will cut your regen expecially in 10m.
Talking about the Lich King, if you’re shielding let’s say 2 groups for the infest, and the whole raid for the last phases, you can drop points so that the shields are absorbing less and you’re gaining mana back from them, if you really have problems. However in LK you can use all your cooldowns very efficiently. Pet in p1 and 3-4, Hymn in first p2, and the potion when you wish, you should have 99.9% uptime with the mana. One thing you should do however, it’s to use PI on yourself.
That said, if you had a SS more than a gear list, spirit’s weight would be higher for HMs, without dropping points on BT (thus without getting shields fully absorbed all the time, thus “wasting mana”).
What is the cap for crit and where should I be looking to cap my int (unbuffed) or should I? Most people tend to state that well-geared priests end up gemming for only SP due to the caps on crit, haste, etc. (I know the haste cap is between 15 and 17%).
@Aely: There is no crit cap for casters or hunters, only melee, and in reality only dualwielders whose crit rolls start to enter into glancing blows and miss rolls.
Trying to get as much crit+haste gear, currently progressing thru 25 hc ICC. And starting to get a little worried about giving up most, if not all, of my spirit gear, as some of the fights on heroic mode can become quite mana consuming. But I’m hoping that the increased intellect and more gem slots for int/sp and sp/mp5 even it out.
On a side note, at 20% haste unbuffed and havent met the hardcap on FHs yet, and it’s also really nice to have faster PoHs, DH and HoH.
Sitting at 23% not including 6% from talents atm haste, and I do really enjoy having it effect everything.
40% crit, and I love that too. Sure, crit you cannot rely on, but having more bubbles is always nice.
3100 self buffed SP, lower than any holy priest for sure, but I think quite fair for disc.
I gem either for sp+int, sp+mp5, or int+mp5 depending on my mood, and have a manapool of 32k unbuffed. My regen however, is only around 250/450. It jumps significantly in a raid environment, and returns in rapture and replenishment more than make up for it, imo. Not to mention shadowfiend.
I noticed in the wand section you have the normal mode Corpse-Impaling Spike listed as the heroic drop, and the heroic version not listed at all. Just a heads up, sorry for doubling if this has already been brought up.

Bob! Have you seen the new T10 4pc bonus!!! OMG, of course I bought chest/hands/legs offset already.
but wow, 5% to shields and renew. wow.
Hmm, has something changed in the LootRank link since you first posted it? I took a look at it and the ranking order seems to have changed. (Just heard the news about the new bonus. Have only bought the chest offset but that means I have to decide if the bonus is worth not having the crafted legs or not…)
@BethE: yeah I have to decide if I want to wait for VOA to be kind, or maybe buy the chest. In either case, I’ll wait until I have enough frost for two pieces, but since I am only a 10 man raider, I am stuck in 251 gear; That is rough to swap out offset for, but if I need the mana, I’ll do it. And 60K more absorbs over a long fight is nice.
I do both 10man and 25man but I can only raid two nights a week so it’s hard to tell even _if_ I’ll get the chance at an upgrade token. (Looking at our loot tables, we haven’t even _seen_ the priest token drop yet. Our DKs, though, are very happy.) I’m going back over the numbers to see how much spellpower would be needed to duplicate the bonus. I may just have to stare wistfully at the 4pc bonus from afar, like I did with Tier 8.
metasockets what would you prefer in metasocket
is there a new star on heaven ?
Just wondering where Corpse-Impaling Spike (Rotface) fit’s into the Disc list
Opps .. non heroic version (fotgot that part)
I believe it’d fit something like this:
# ??? – Corpse-Impaling Spike
Rotface – Icecrown Citadel 25 heroic
# 266 – Nightmare Ender
Valithria Dreamwalker – Icecrown Citadel 25 heroic
# 232 – Corpse-Impaling Spike
Rotface – Icecrown Citadel 25
# 225 – Nightmare Ender
Valithria Dreamwalker – Icecrown Citadel 25
Also, can I question the logic behind http://www.wowhead.com/?item=51882#comments being worse than http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49891#comments because they seem to be better in most every sense other than BoE.
Wands updated for both this and Holy lists.
Just out of curiosity Bob, which do you prefer, staff or MH + OH for disc.
MH + OH always for any class and spec that uses them.
Staff easier to upgrade but lags behind the MH+OH combo in stats for equivilent gear.
Gobble gobble.
I’ve been a silent fan of BobTurkey for awhile now. Thank you so much for this list. It definitely gives me a good path to follow for gearing my disc priest.
I saw that some people were discussing problems with mana based on the list. I’ve heard a lot of disc priests are gemming for straight intellect (+20 int), so I figured I would give it a shot. Now, I don’t have all BiS pieces, but I’m very close on each item. I have taken 4p T10 for the improved PW:S since I’m almost always a shieldspammer in our raids (10/25m Heroic ICC). With the items I have, and gemming mostly for int, I am sitting at 33k mana unbuffed (ends up being 38k raid buffed), 3353 spellpower self buffed (around 3500-ish raid buffed), 17% haste, and 41% crit with 419 mana regen in combat no buffs. With all the raid buffs that we get in our raids, I never seem to have a problem with mana. My PI goes to dps, and I still have my tricks to use (shadowfiend, Hymn of Hope, Arcane Torrent) that I use about 3/4 of the way thru the fight (if at all), and that sustains me for the rest. This is even on the long fights. On LK, I shieldspam the infest off the ranged/healers, and because of that, I get full mana back every single time with Rapture (15 people get hit with infest all at the same time means the Rapture proc goes off for every shield that is up – with downranking PW:S of course).
So my question is, wouldn’t intellect be considered an extremely powerful stat over the others? I get my other stats just because it’s in the gear, but gem-wise, I have had awesome performances with +20 int gems.
Thanks Vellvette.
My 3.2 gem posting (https://bobturkey.wordpress.com/2009/07/25/priest-gems-for-3-2/) is still relevant and agrees with this idea.
I have a few questions.. I switched from Holy to Disc I’ve had to pick up some pcs to help out my Disc set… but i think its alright.
Since the 4set bonus helps out our shields more, which Set PC’s would y’all recommend getting?
I dont rly want to drop some of my current gear for just the set bonus unless its HARDCORE. I do have my priest set but i dont want to downgrade to them once i get my tokens.
side note: [Glyph of Power Word: Shield] heals for 1609. SELF BUFFED
so 1609*5= 8045 absorption right?
20% heal (1609) * 5 (20 goes into 100 5 times)

btw GREAT site!! im was trying to figure what was BiS on my own, when i came across this site.
This page is awesome. Most gear lists for healing priests is favoring holy. However, I do miss some pointers about trinkets for disc priests here.
I currently have Eye of the Broodmother ( http://www.wowhead.com/item=45308 ) and Illustration of the Dragon Soul ( http://www.wowhead.com/item=40432 ), which was as good as it could get for discs back when we were breaking into Ulduar.
With ToC and ICC I am aiming for Solace of the Defeated and Althor’s Abacus and disregarding everything else available.
But is this a sound plan?
How does my current trinkets compare to the trinkets dropping from bosses/emblems in 3.2 and 3.3?
Yes your absorption calculations are correct.
Personally I went for T10 head, shoulders, pants and gloves with an emblem chest (currently Meteor Chaser’s Rainment). I think head and shoulders are easy choices for T10, after that it is personal preference. There are good emblem pieces for chest and hands and the crafted legs are an excellent alternative to the tier pieces.
Is the T10 4 piece bonus really the best setup? I tend to play a MT healer rather than a raid shield spammer, so I am unsure how much better the set bonus will be over some of the raw stats of some other gear.
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Deathwing&cn=Aelynn
This is my current Armory. I recently went back to disc after having to raid shadow for a few weeks, so I do have a couple of shadow pieces, but as Bob has pointed out before as far as raw stats go, the shadow set complements a disc priest better. I
I’m just trying to sort out where my frosties go next. I know I need the Purified Lunar Dust still, so I am working on the 60 badges for that, but after that I am sort of stumped as to what my next upgrades are.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!
Thanks!
Depends on if you think you’ll be back as shadow anytime soon. If so spend your badges on shadow gear.
Shadow (and DPS specs generally) is far more sensitive to improving gear than healing, provided you have enough mana regen. Better shadow gear = more dps, which people are looking at all the time. More disc gear may mean more healing depending on the fight, your skill etc.
Purified Lunar Dust is a good idea to start with. T10 healing gear isn’t worth it IMO unless you 100% healing all the time. You get more value from 4 pc T10 shadow DPSing than you do 4 pc T10 healing, if that makes sense.
[…] discipline priest best in slot items – I don’t actually think I’ve done one for ICC gear, but BobTurkey has a good Disc priest Best-In-Slot list. […]
As disc Bob, do you use the 4 pc T10? Or even the 2 pc 10? I find the off set pieces to be more powerful than the tier. I could be wrong but looking at your list it looks like you’d recommend at least 2 pc.
I’m using almost all of the BIS pieces listed here at the 264 level. Mana does not seem at all to be a problem. L2 Hymn of Hope and use a mana pot on every boss encounter and you will be fine. Disc ftw.
In my experience. For those of you getting started gearing Disc. Gem Int. until you hit 26640 mana buffed (the rapture plateau). Once you are beyond the sweetspot you should really start thinking about gemming SP. Mana should not be an issue if you are using all of your tricks. T10 ftl, go for the crit/haste gear and make use of the haste. Blizz has some issues IMO if they make us have to swallow Spirit just to make it sweeter for holy to get SP out of the spec. Anyhow as a tank healer I find it more beneficial to have the stats over the 5% absorption and the loss of said stats. Im at the GCD on my flashheal and am dropping GreaterHeals at less at 1.8 sec. Absorption is our bread and butter yes, But a tank will be dead if you rely completely on shields and Paladins.
@Raine – No. I don’t use any of the T10 healing gear. Off set pieces are what I use.
Hi there can I quote some of the content found in this blog if I link back to you?
Sure not a problem at all Cedric.
[…] wrote this a great (and still accurate) list of the best-in-slot gear for disc priests from Icecrown Citadel 10 and 25 man raids (normal and […]
Min/maxing is the way to go in ICC. Disc does not have much utility in WotLK right now. The entire purpose of Disc is to mitigate damage, which is clearly forecast and predictable in every boss encounter in ICC. As Bob said, players need to determine their own BiS list based on their play-style (even though, in reality, there isn’t much variance…any two exceptional Discipline priests are going to play in a very similar way).
This list has absolutely no meaning to ANYONE that is in a transitional phase in their gear, because you are faced with constant tit-for-tat decisions, such as making a change to which tier items you want to utilized without breaking the bonus until you have both pieces of equipment in your bags to gem/enchant and equip.
The 4-piece is extremely useful for a Disc priest. If you ARE NOT topping the healing charts on almost every fight with the exception of DW in WoL (where damage absorbed is taken into account), you are either severely under-geared for the content you’re raiding, or you are not doing it right. Why is this true? Simply put, because PW:Shield is our primary tool. What increases its effectiveness? Spellpower alone.
There is no excuse to gem anything other than straight SP once you’re in iLvl 251 or higher average level gear. There is no reason to gem haste, because of the low soft cap in conjunction with Borrowed Time (which will be in effect for nearly every spell cast, unless you are spamming heals on a tank with Weakened Soul because the tank healers are unable to perform their duty for some reason; however, this is situational, and thus not relevant to gemming decisions). There is no reason to gem Int – I am at 29.8k mana unbuffed from gear alone. Someone in ICC10 gear wouldn’t be terribly far behind, and if you’re just starting ICC10…it’s extremely easy to heal (even in Naxx gear with awful gemming). Gemming Crit is unnecessary, because it is on most of your gear. Since you can’t go over 12% Haste without wasting the stat, you WILL inevitably end up with nearly 40% Holy crit in ICC25 gear, meaning almost 50% crit with raid buffs. More than that is overkill.
On a side note, the Rapture proc trick in the Lich King encounter means a Disc priest should never come close to even 50% mana until P3, if at all.
While on the topic of mana regen, people with mana problems should always use Shadowfiend followed immediately by Hymn of Hope. SF->Hymn gives you maximum mana recovered (more than using both independently) – nearly a full 100% (especially if you pop a trinket like Sliver of Pure Ice, which doesn’t trigger a GCD and should be kept on CD all the time from first use, for every encounter). Since ICC is almost 100% predictable spike damage, there is always time for a Hymn. It’s not nearly as hectic as Ulduar was.
Thanks to our amazing ability to prevent and reduce damage, we are able to save the melee that accidentally run over flasks in H-Putricide. We can save them when they don’t see ghosts incoming in H-LDW. In demanding fights, especially on progression kills, it can be hair-raising when a player’s life depends on your ability to manage GCD’s, but thrilling and satisfying at the same time when you see “You receive Frost Emblem x2” in the chat log after finally succeeding. But, if you go for the number one item in every list without calculating the stats for yourself, and choose to ignore the 4-piece set bonus without fully understanding the trade-off you’re making, then you simply are not being the best Disc priest you can be.
*dies from Ayreene’s +20% buffed wall of text crit*
But yeah. What Ayreene said 🙂
The dirty little secret of disc and meters is the fact that PW:S prevents other healers from effectively healing that damage. We’re not really competing with the other healers on a level playing field as we always get first bite of the cherry.
Gobble gobble.
Is the set bonus on the healer T10 really so worthless that the Shadow T10 is actually better? As main spec Shadow, I’m already delighted at how much of my gear carries over to my Disc spec. But still, I think people are going to O.o at me if I show up healing in my Shadow set.
I’m going to be co-leading my guild’s junior varsity ICC10, and depending on the fight, I will probably be switching to Disc from time to time. My style is bubble-spam, so it seems like the healer T10 set would have value for me, what with the Divine Aegis buff, but should I pick up off-set stuff instead? Or bubble and heal in my facemelting gear?
Personally as Disc i wouldn’t bother with the healing T10 gear. If I was dual holy/disc then i’d prolly get it but as a 50/50 shadow/disc priest the extra DPS of the T10 shadow gear is far more useful than the extra healing of the T10 healing gear.
DPSing generally is more sensitive to improving gear than healing. Healing is more about play syle and learning the fights.
You may have some mana issues bubbling in pure shadow gear, but with a few spirit pieces you should be fine. I started with pure shadow gear, but picked up spirit pieces as they were available. In the easier ICC content your shadow gear will be fine. By the time you are killing the Lich King you’ll need more mana regen.
Gobble gobble.
Oh poo, I already spent precious frost badges on the T10 shoulders. Luckily, I have the Deathwhisper shoulders retired from my Shadow set upon the arrival of T10, which remains unsanctified because the RNGods hate me and feed on my tears.
Any advice on my next T10 badge purchase? Should I go with Purified Lunar Dust, the Meteor Chaser’s Rainment, or the Gloves of False Gestures? I’m in good shape for pants, boots, belt, and helm. My current trinkets are Sliver of Pure Ice and Egg of Mortal Essence. My healing set is the T9 4pc.
Puried Lunar Dust is a great trinket that will take some time to replace.
I am losing my will to play wow,I been at this for going on 5+ years.I guess this is from butt head player calling you names gets very old after sometime of it.But any ways, would you look up my profile and tell me what is best for me?
